‘#ExplainToMe’ is a three-episode animated video series I created as part of the Turing-Roche Community Scholar Scheme. It marked my first attempt at making animations! Each video breaks down an important concept in health data science, and more specifically spotlights one of the Turing-Roche partnership’s three research themes. Read more here. 
The Buku Ristaan (Book of Memories) is a 75-to-100-page printed visual memoir that celebrates the stories of Bruneian university students in the UK, past and present. I led the production of the 2017 edition, which was a special one as it coincided with the Golden Jubilee celebration of His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei’s ascension to the throne. The theme, ‘Raja Gemilang, Generasi Cemerlang’, was used to spotlight Bruneian student achievements from each decade of the past 50 years. As a teenager at the time, one of the greatest honours for me was getting to present the book to His Majesty as a pesambah in December 2017. Read more here. 
For the 2018 edition of the Buku Ristaan, I anchored the design and content of the book around the theme ‘Raja Pencalak Pewaris Negara’, which focused on how Bruneian students in the UK have remained rooted in the Bruneian national philosophy of Melayu Islam Beraja while abroad. The 84-page book (a symbolic nod to Brunei’s independence in 1984) included excerpts from current students and several prominent alumni who are now key national figures! I had the honour of presenting the book to His Majesty again as a pesambah in December 2018. Read more here.
During my PhD, I was invited to design a student diary that spotlighted several women in STEM from around the world as superheroes, or ‘Heroines of Science.’ The book was later distributed in schools across Ethiopia. Read more here. 
This 10-minute short film, in which I served as the cinematographer, editor, and one of the writers, tells the fictional story of a content young man named Mustafa, who finds out that blood is thicker than water — and what success truly means. Spoken entirely in Malay, the film won the 2020 Brunei-Leicester Online Video Competition. Read more here 
A moniker inspired by the Malay word fikiran (meaning thoughts) and my name – I started ‘fiqiran’ as a space to explore surrealist photography, where I blend graphic design principles and imagination into my photographic work. Read more here. 
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I put together a fun 10-minute spoof of Vogue’s 73 Questions with two long-time friends (Kadrina and Izzatul) who are also alumni of the ‘Sultan’s Scholar’ scholarship. The intention behind the video was to share personal university experiences and exam tips, and it was shown to A-Level students at the Belait Sixth Form Centre in 2021. Read more here.

Every year, Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah prints notebooks to give out to students, and in 2022, I was lucky enough to design the covers — this time centred around the theme ‘Keep moving forward’ from Meet the Robinsons! Read more here

I submitted two entries in 2021 and 2022, respectively, to a logo design competition held by the Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam to celebrate their 4th and 5th anniversaries. I secured 2nd place for the 2021 entry! Read more here.

I love watching films, and I’ve always been fascinated by how they’re marketed.
